ChatGPT ads are now open to businesses in Turkey: OpenAI's advertiser availability list shows Turkey as "Available" among self-serve countries. This means a company established and billed in Turkey can launch ad campaigns inside ChatGPT through Ads Manager, without going through an agency.
Poised to become the third major channel after Google and Meta ads, this space is a new opportunity, especially for e-commerce and service brands. But before spending budget on a new platform, it pays to understand its rules, measurement and limits. In this post we've gathered, step by step, how ChatGPT ads work, who sees them and how Turkish brands can prepare for their first campaign.
What are ChatGPT ads and where do they appear?
According to OpenAI's help center, ads appear below ChatGPT's response, clearly labeled as "sponsored" and visually separated from the answer. OpenAI stresses that ads don't influence the content of answers and that advertisers can't access users' conversations; advertisers only see aggregated performance data such as views and clicks.
The scale is notable: in its October 5, 2026 announcement, OpenAI said ChatGPT reaches 1.2 billion people every week. The same announcement introduced a new visual ad format shown during image generation; however, that test is starting in the US only, with a limited group of advertisers.
Who sees the ads?
Before planning your targeting, it's important to know the limits of the audience. According to the help center:
- Ads may be shown to users on the Free and Go plans. Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu accounts don't see ads.
- Accounts identified as belonging to users under 18 don't see ads.
- Ads aren't placed next to sensitive conversations such as health, mental health or politics, and political advertising isn't allowed at all.
- Temporary Chats show no ads, and users can turn off ad personalization in their settings.
This means some professional audiences on paid plans can't be reached through this channel. B2B brands would do well to adjust their expectations accordingly.
Campaign objectives and billing models
When you set up a campaign in Ads Manager, you choose one of three objectives:
- Views: Pay per thousand impressions (CPM). Suited to launches and awareness.
- Clicks: Pay per valid click (CPC). For driving traffic to your site.
- Conversions: The system optimizes toward the conversion event you choose, but you pay per click (oCPC) or per impression (oCPM), not per conversion.
On budgets, you can choose a campaign-total or a daily budget. A daily budget works as a seven-day average target; spend on a single day can reach up to twice the daily budget. The minimum daily budget depends on your billing currency, for example USD 25 for US dollars or EUR 15 for euros. We recommend checking the amount for your own account on the campaign creation screen.
Targeting options
Location is the foundation of targeting. Ads only run in the countries you include, so you need to select Turkey explicitly. Where available, you can also target regions, cities and postal codes; however, campaigns built on a product feed support country-level targeting only. Beyond that, you can choose platforms (iOS/Android apps, mobile web, desktop) and use custom audiences. Including a custom audience requires at least 25,000 matched users, an important threshold for small businesses working with small customer lists.
Pre-launch checklist for your first campaign
How well the first few weeks on a new channel go depends largely on preparation. A practical checklist for Turkish brands:
- Legal and billing details: The advertising and billing legal entity must be based in a listed country. Have your company details and payment method ready.
- Crawler access: OpenAI asks that OAI-AdsBot and OAI-SearchBot not be blocked. Check your robots.txt file and firewall (WAF) rules; many sites block these bots without realizing it.
- The right landing page: Send people to a product, category or content page directly related to the ad rather than your homepage.
- Measurement setup: Before launching a conversion campaign, define the conversion event and connect a data source. You can add UTM parameters to each creative; use them to track ChatGPT traffic separately in your Google Analytics reports.
- Multiple creative variations: OpenAI recommends preparing several titles and descriptions from different angles for each offering. Concrete benefits and usage details should take priority over generic ad language.
How should ad copy be written?
In ChatGPT, a user asks a question and the ad appears below the answer. That context also sets the tone of the copy. The help center's advice, in short: state the value clearly and briefly in the title, add new information in the description rather than repeating the title, and keep the image simple and aligned with the message. Instead of bold claims like "the best in Turkey," details that make the decision easier, such as delivery times, warranty, size guides or installation support, feel more meaningful here. Ads, images and landing pages that don't comply with OpenAI's ad policies can be rejected, and every ad is reviewed before it goes live.
Start small, grow by measuring
ChatGPT ads are still an evolving product: formats, measurement partners and markets change every month. So rather than shifting your Google or Meta budget all at once, it's healthier to start with a limited test budget and compare the results with your existing channels. A clicks campaign as a first objective, followed by a conversions campaign once your measurement is in place, can be a sensible sequence.
At the same time, don't neglect organic visibility: a site that is open to OAI-SearchBot and offers clear, up-to-date information supports both ad relevance and your brand being mentioned in ChatGPT search.
